10 Reasons Why You Should Start a Blog

Have you ever wondered “Should I start a blog?” or “Is blogging right for me and my business”? If so, this post is for you!

10 Reasons Why You Should Start a Blog

I believe blogging is beneficial to every business, especially online-based businesses. Here’s 10 reasons why you should start a blog!

1. Blogging is Inexpensive

The biggest investment is in the time you spend to create consistent and quality content. You can choose a free service such as WordPress.com or Blogger and just choose to buy your own domain, which costs around $15. Or you can choose to make a larger investment and have a self-hosted blog. For that you will need to purchase a domain name and hosting. I use Siteground as my hosting provider and am also an affiliate. Plans start as low as $3.95 per month and that includes the domain name!

2. Blogging Helps SEO

Search engines love new and fresh content because it means your website is active. Blogging is great for that because you update regularly unlike a static website. It is great to have a blog with your online storefront for this reason. Using keywords strategically throughout your blog can reap even more benefits!

3. Blogging Makes Your Content Shareable

Having share buttons on your blog is a great way to encourage sharing. When this happens your content is put in front of an even wider audience. The best part is, it is word-of-mouth marketing. Someone else is saying how great your blog or content is, which is more valuable than you just publishing an advertisement. Seeing a recommendation from others is seen as more trustworthy than a traditional marketing message.

4. Blogging Allows You to Reach Thousands of People at Once

Anyone can stumble across your blog, which means as your blog grows you have the potential to reach people from all over the world.

5. Blogging Allows You to Connect With and Grow Your Audience

Comments are a great way to engage with your community. Both by answering comments left on your blog and by you actively and thoughtfully participating on others blogs.

6. Blogging Lets You Manage Your Reputation

There may come a time that you need to set the record straight or clear up some comments made about your company, blog or product/service. Blogging provides you with the platform and audience to do so.

7. Blogging Positions Yourself as an Expert

When you blog consistently about one topic, you can become the go-to person for that subject. You may be asked to guest post on other blogs or even attend and speak at conferences.

8. Blogging Builds Trust

Blogging is a form of two-way communications. You aren’t just feeding your readers information, you are interacting with them through comments and social media. This puts a human face to your brand and makes you more trustworthy. Also, being open and honest about your products and services can go a long way in building trust.

9. Blogging is Easy

You don’t have to have design skills or be a seasoned writer to start a blog. There are many free avenues to get started. In fact, you can have your own blog started in less than 10 minutes! I have posts on just how easy it is to create your own hosted WordPress blog and how to create a blog with blogger.

10. Blogging is Fun

Most importantly, blogging is fun! Readers love to be entertained, find a style that fits your company! You learn new skills, connect with your audience and have a lot of fun doing so!
