Here’s something I want you to sit with for a second: what if you don’t actually need more leads?
I know. That feels counterintuitive. We’re constantly told to grow our audience, post more content, show up more consistently, get more visibility. And sure, sometimes that’s true. But more often than not? The revenue you’re looking for is already sitting inside your business. You’re just not collecting it.
That’s exactly what Episode 20 of Lindsey Talks Tech is all about.
More Leads Won’t Fix a Leaky System
If you’re getting inquiries, having conversations, seeing engagement, or getting DMs from people who seem interested… that’s not a lead problem. That’s a conversion problem.
Somewhere between the initial interest and the actual decision, people are dropping off. And when that happens, pouring more leads into the top of your funnel doesn’t help. It just adds more volume to a system that isn’t converting.
More leads into a leaky system just makes the leak bigger.
The real fix isn’t more visibility. It’s figuring out where the gaps are and closing them.
3 Places Money Quietly Slips Through the Cracks
1. After Initial Interest
Someone replies to your content, clicks on your link, or asks about your services… and then nothing happens. No clear next step. No follow-up. No system guiding them forward.
That gap right there? That’s a leak.
To be clear, not every reply is a buying signal. You can usually tell the difference between a generic comment and someone who’s genuinely curious. But when someone shows real interest and there’s no path forward for them, that’s a missed opportunity.
2. After a Call or Conversation
This one is big. You have a great discovery call. They seem interested. They say they’ll think about it. And then… silence.
It’s not always because they’re not interested. It’s often because there’s no structured follow-up guiding the decision. Sometimes people get busy. Sometimes they need more time. And without a system in place to stay present with them, that opportunity quietly fades.
3. The Follow-Up Gap
You send one follow-up, maybe two, and then you stop. Meanwhile, your potential client is juggling a hundred other things, hasn’t made a decision yet, and simply… forgot.
The opportunity didn’t disappear because they weren’t interested. It disappeared because it wasn’t supported.
Follow-Up Is a Revenue Skill, Not a Personality Trait
This is one of my favorite reframes and I really mean it.
A lot of people avoid follow-up because they think it requires a certain kind of personality. Like you have to be naturally confident, great at sales, or comfortable “going for the close.” But that’s just not true.
Follow-up is a system. A repeatable process that reminds, supports, and guides people toward a decision. It’s not about being pushy. It’s about being present.
And here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear: most people don’t say no. They just don’t say anything. Without follow-up, that silence becomes lost revenue.
What a Simple Follow-Up System Actually Looks Like
You don’t need anything complicated. A basic follow-up sequence could look like this:
- Initial response or call
- Follow-up 2 to 3 days later
- Another follow-up a few days after that
- One final check-in or “closing the loop” message
That’s it. Four touchpoints. Intentional, supportive, and not pushy.
If you want to take it a step further, you can layer in tools like Dubsado for CRM workflows (aff link) or Kit for automated email sequences (aff link). But the system always comes first. The tech just supports it.
Before You Chase More Visibility, Ask Yourself This
Where am I not following through on the leads I already have?
Because if you’re already getting interest and it’s not converting, visibility isn’t the answer. A stronger follow-up system is.
When your follow-up is intentional and consistent, more conversations turn into clients, your existing audience becomes more valuable, and your business stops feeling so dependent on that constant cycle of creating content and chasing growth.
You stop starting from scratch every week. You start closing the loop on the interest that’s already there.
Ready to Fix Your Follow-Up?
If this episode hit home, my free Inbox to Income Guide is the perfect next step. It walks you through how to streamline your follow-ups, automate where it makes sense (while still keeping that human touch), and build a system that converts interest into actual clients, without overcomplicating your tech.
Because you probably don’t need more opportunities. You just need to fully use the ones already in front of you.
