Episode 27 | My Exact Philosophy on Funnels, Offers, and Automation

There’s a version of this podcast where I hand you a quick tip, a swipe file, a three step process, and most weeks that’s exactly what I do. But every so often I want to zoom all the way out and tell you what I actually believe, not just about one funnel or one offer, but about the whole way I think a business should be built.

That’s what episode 27 is all about. If you’ve been around Lindsey Talks Tech for a while, you’ve heard pieces of this philosophy scattered across a dozen different episodes. This is the first time I’m laying out the whole thing in one place, so consider this my flag in the ground.

Here’s the thread that ties it all together: simplicity and intention beat volume and hustle, every single time.

There is so much advice floating around our space that just says more. More funnels. More offers. More automations. More tools. And I genuinely think that advice is quietly burning people out and leaving them with businesses that are complicated, fragile, and not even working that well.

I want something different for you. I want you to have a few things that work really, really well. Things you understand. Things you can actually maintain. That’s the lens I’m using for all three pieces of this philosophy: funnels, offers, and automation.

You Don’t Need More Funnels. You Need One That Works.

This is the piece I feel most strongly about, and it goes directly against most of the advice out there. So much funnel content is about building more of them: a funnel for this freebie, a funnel for that offer, a funnel for the webinar, a funnel for the challenge. And what people end up with is a pile of half built funnels, none of them optimized, none of them performing.

Here’s something most people miss too: you already have a funnel, whether you’ve planned it or not. It’s called your customer journey. People are finding you, forming an opinion, and some of them are buying, whether or not you ever built that path intentionally. So the real question isn’t whether you have a funnel. It’s how many individual pieces of that journey you’re trying to optimize at once.

My answer is one. Work on one at a time. Pick a single entry point, whether that’s a lead magnet, a freebie, an offer funnel, and get it working well before you move to the next one. A single funnel that actually converts is worth more than ten that are just sitting there doing nothing.

I’m not saying this from a soapbox. I’ve lived it. I built funnel after funnel all at once, spread myself so thin that not a single one got the attention it needed to actually work. I see clients do the exact same thing, coming to me with five funnels they’re trying to fix simultaneously, completely overwhelmed. The moment we slow down and focus on just one, the overwhelm drops and the results start showing up.

You Don’t Need More Offers. You Need Offers That Make Sense Together.

Same belief, different outfit. It’s tempting to keep creating: a new offer every time you have an idea, a constantly growing menu. But what you end up with is a business that’s confusing to your audience and exhausting for you.

What I believe in instead is a clear, intentional path. A few offers that connect, where each one solves a real problem and naturally leads someone to the next logical step in working with you. Not a sprawling catalog people have to dig through hoping to find something worth buying. Your offers should guide someone one clear step at a time, deeper into the work you do best.

I’ll use myself as an example here. When I started this podcast, I was genuinely multi-passionate, torn between helping people with funnels, automation, and the tech side of things, and helping people start and grow their businesses from scratch. I was updating a membership into a full signature program while also trying to serve this podcast’s audience, and I kept getting stuck. I was splitting my focus, splitting my audience, and honestly starting to resent it. That’s why you’ve probably noticed some changes around here lately. I had to take my own advice, simplify, and get back on topic with what Lindsey Talks Tech is actually supposed to be about.

(To be clear, there are people making great money with an ever growing menu of offers. But they didn’t start that way. Start with a few, get them solid, and earn the leeway to expand later.)

Automation Should Protect the Human Stuff, Not Replace It.

This is probably the piece people expect me to be most obsessed with, and I am, just maybe not in the way you’d think.

Automation should remove the busy work so you have more room for the things only you can do. It’s not supposed to replace the human side of your business. It’s supposed to protect it. So much automation advice treats the goal as removing yourself entirely: automate every interaction, never talk to anybody, let the machine run everything. That’s not what I want for you, because I believe the relationship is the business. The connection is what people are actually buying, and you can’t automate that.

What you should automate is everything that’s draining your time without needing your heart: the delivery, the tagging, the reminders, the repeatable behind the scenes work. Hand that to your systems. Then take the time and energy that gives you back and pour it into the real conversations, the thoughtful replies, the moments a client feels genuinely seen. That’s where you belong.

The Whole Philosophy, In a Nutshell

One funnel that works, before five that don’t. A clear path of offers instead of a confusing pile. Automation that protects your relationships instead of replacing them. Sustainable growth doesn’t come from doing more things. It comes from doing the right things well and on purpose, then building on that foundation one solid step at a time.

If this resonated and you’re ready to stop spinning your wheels on a dozen half built things, I’d love for you to join my free Build Your Lead Launchpad Challenge. It’s built on exactly this philosophy: we’re not building ten funnels, we’re building one, done well, from the ground up. Over three days we’ll map out your offer, design the funnel architecture behind it, and create a real launch plan you can actually use. You can grab your spot here.
